| I tend to use Acrylics most of the time because of all the new mediums that have been developed along with them. Its possible to get some amazing textures, glazes and finishes as well as being able to work quickly and get back to finishing an effect without having to wait weeks for paint to dry. |
In common with lots of artists my sketch books are the essence of my work and I value them above the all the rest of my output.
The reason I work in different mediums is that each offers its own rewards.
I like the rich vibrancy of paints and the subtlety of transparent layers, like drawing it offers more control to finish closer to your original vision. But with three dimensional work you're constantly re-appraising the form as shadows and light come into play and ideas will develope along with the cut of the tools.
Talk to most artists and they'll say they love the tactile joy of working with materials, no matter what heady doctrine they wish to convey through the imagery of their work.
Saying that, I feel that the initial moment of The idea for a piece is what gives me the biggest thrill. There is the diamond light of human imagining and what makes an artist what he or she is. |

Most of my work, whether two dimensional or three, starts out as a pencil drawing..........I'd say pencil was my favourite medium and always has been.I'll start with a flowing, explorative sketch around the idea I have for a piece and then fine-tune the design down to a definitive layout. If it's a drawing or a painting. I won't change much apart from the colours and
texture, but if it's a sculpture the piece evolves more organically as I turn it round to work withIn common with lots of artists my sketch books are the essence of my work and I value them above the all the rest of my output.
